Prayer

“It is easier to build up a child than it is to repair an adult. Choose your words wisely.”

Oh, dear Lord, please let me be doing this right. In a world where the gift of life is so greatly taken for granted, let me be a voice of positivity, creative energy and unbridled love in my children’s lives. Help me to build up kind, nurturing, courageous individuals who love without limit and live for others. Help us to be worthy of this sometimes overwhelming challenge you’ve put before us, to passionately love and guard these eternal souls you’ve put in our care. Put great teachers in their paths who will fill in the blanks that we leave and give us the grace to accept the fact that we’re not the only role models our children will have. Make me sensitive to the opportunities we have to talk about you and open my eyes to the ways that you reveal yourself to me through my girls. Thank you, thank you, thank you for putting them in our lives. Give me the energy to keep running this race and, above all, help me to be the mother they deserve.

This is a beautiful prayer, one that we all as parents have prayed – or at least a similar one. It’s a little intimidating to think of how much influence one has over an innocent life. Then, you realize. That child is not always that innocent! You love and do the best you can and leave the rest up to God. Make sure that there is a place for God in his/her life so that God has an opportunity to address the issues. It’s nice to know that when we don’t have all the answers, God does.
