Things That Make Me Happy…Like, Really, Really Happy

10 Jun

So, we’ve had a pretty exciting day around here…news to come, but I won’t spill yet since the news isn’t entirely mine. (Intrigued?? Suspicious that this is a cheap ploy to drum up readership?? All in due time…mwhuahahaha!)

Anyway, good news always makes me think about good things and I just spontaneously started making a list of things that make me incredibly happy.

Here they are, in no particular order.

Things That Make Me Incredibly Happy:

New Beginnings…and the fact that each day contains millions. No really, millions.

-Musicians who play tambourines.

-Babies who play tambourines.

-Playing the tambourine.

Pardon the lazy eye. We’re going for realism here.

-Psychedelic nail polish – Today I’m wearing “Kook a Mango”, proof that I’m taking time for myself, hooray!

-Journals.

-Opportunities for challenge and change.

-Proper QWERTY typing, a love developed due to my father’s obsession with Mavis Beacon CD-ROMs and a junior high keyboarding teacher who made us do wall squats when we weren’t good. True story.

-Folksy hipster music. Right now I’m listening to a glorious playlist including, but not limited to:

  • Mumford and Sons
  • The Head and the Heart
  • Of Monsters and Men
  • Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
  • The Avett Brothers
  • Bryan John Applby

Check ’em all out so you can be cool like me…or just so’s you’ve got some good tunes at your disposal.

-Ripening tomatoes and growing plants in our little backyard farm.

Hello, there, my little red friend!

Baby basil leaves!

-Reading to Maggie. She’s been toting around my copies of the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, so I decided to try reading one to her, just to see if we’re ready for the next level of book lovin’. We finished an entire chapter before her nap, so hooray for that!

-And finally, this picture, courtesy of our sweet friend, Giancarlo:

This was at Lil’s 1st birthday celebration yesterday. Laaarve!

What are some things that make you indescribably happy? I wanna know!

These things would really make me happy: Pictures of my grandchildren, especially on the special days like birthdays when I am 2 days away and can’t attend the celebrations! Measurements of the grandchild that I am trying to sew for. Answers to texts, even if it’s, “I’m busy; I’ll catch you later!”

So that is my gripe list. Now, to the things I enjoy but often take for granted: Phone calls where I get to hear my grandchildren say “flower” and have conversations with Granny Garr! Wonderful pictures on Facebook that make me feel like I have shared in special times like last weekend’s Parade the Circle! Calls going to and coming from work from my busy daughter! References to her childhood that makes me think that maybe we did a thing or two right! And, those special moments when I can hear the love all the way from Cleveland to Texas! Love you all! YOU make me happy!

    Thunderstorms on the front porch

Those are great things! Have you always kept a journal? My daughter has had one going at all times from the time she started writing and I know she’s going to cherish them when she’s older. ❤
Weekends make me happy because we're all together as a family. Thunderstorms definitely make me happy! And a thunderstorm on the WEEKEND is the best! 😉

I’ve kept journals very sporadically over the years…sometimes I just HAVE to write and other times, not so much. I’m really into art journaling lately…you should look into with your daughter, too, if she’s interested in that kind of thing! I’ve got some pins on my Create! board on pinterest. 🙂

And yes, thunderstorms on the weekend are just the best!

Reading friends’ blogs. Fitting into old jeans. Shopping…ALONE. The mountains. Cool weather. Good food. My lunch break. The feeling after a run. Watching my sons discover new things. (Today, Andy “played” with his first toy!”) Listening to Levi tell a knock knock joke. Farmers markets. Bubble baths. A clean house….Sigh…thanks for this!

Ohhh, the mountains…that’s a really good one! I’m gonna go google mountain pictures now. 🙂

Also, I would DIE to hear Levi tell a knock-knock joke!
